Adoption of Botanical pesticides in Kanyakumari District

The investigation was designed to determine the characteristics of the respondents and to measure their knowledge level and adoption of botanical pesticides. This study also aimed to bring out the constraints in adoption of botanical pesticides.

Keeping this in view, the study was taken in Kanyakumari district. The sample size consisted of 120 paddy growers. The respondents were interviwed personally by a well structured and pre-tested interview schedule. Percentage analysis, cumulative frequency, correlation and regression methods were used to analyse the data.

Majority of the respondents had high school education, extension agency contact and mass media explosure. Medium level of farming experience, annual income, innovativeness, risk orientation, scientific orientation and economical motivation were also observed. Low level of farm size and social participation were the other characterstics observed. Majority of the respondents had medium level of knowledgement and low level of adoption

In respect of practice-wise adoption, most of them applied neem cake, neem oil, and neem seed kernel extract. The constraints faced by them were resistant insects, lack of cooperation, lack of conviction, lack of inputs and slow action of the botanical pesticides.
