Effect of different fertility levels on some promising varieties of Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench)
The investigation was laid out in Split Plot Design with three replications. Five varieties of sorghum and four levels of fertility were tried in the main plots and sub plots, respectively.
The results clearly indicated that variety CSH-14 shown highest grain yield potential closely followed by CSH-16. Variety CSV gave significantly higher fodder yield than all other varieties, hence it should be used for fodder production purpose. To obtain the maximum yield of sorghum optimum dose of fertilizer should be kept 120:60-N: P2O5 Kg/ha. Regarding economy, variety CSH-16and fertility levels 120 N + 60 P2O5 kg/ha were found to be the most profitable with highest net returns and cost benefit ratio.
Hence, it was concluded that variety CSH-16 and fertility level 120 N + 60P2O5 kg/ha would be most effective in increasing the yield of sorghum economically
